This Privacy Policy describes how buildproject.in (“we”, “our”, or “platform”) collects, handles, and safeguards personal details, technical problem statements, and browsing telemetry when you visit our website or communicate with our engineering team.

1. Overview & Commitment to Student Privacy

buildproject.in is an online educational tool and hardware engineering consultation platform based in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. We help final-year engineering students, postgraduate researchers, and independent electronics hobbyists calculate component requirements for their projects.

We understand that university capstone projects and research often involve novel ideas. We treat every conversation, research paper, schematic, and student contact detail as strictly confidential.

2. Information We Collect & Why

We only collect information when you voluntarily choose to contact us or interact with our interactive tools:

  • Consultation Communications: When you message our team on WhatsApp or send an email to support@buildproject.in, we receive your phone number, email address, name, and any project briefs you share. This information is used exclusively to evaluate technical feasibility and provide assistance.
  • Server Logs: Standard HTTP request logs (IP address, browser user-agent, referrers) generated by Cloudflare edge networks to prevent DDoS attacks and ensure uptime.
  • Student Referral Program Data: If you participate in our referral program via /refer/, we store your name, college affiliation, and UPI ID solely to attribute referrals and transfer earned commissions. When a referred visitor browses the site, a temporary 30-day attribution identifier (bp_ref) is saved in their browser storage to ensure their project discount is applied and your referral is credited.

3. Live BOM Estimator & Client-Side Storage

Our interactive Bill of Materials Estimator (/cost-estimator/) and AiBuilder tool run entirely client-side in your web browser:

  • Your selected components, quantities, custom price overrides, and project notes are saved directly in your browser's localStorage.
  • We do not transmit your BOM selections to any external backend server or database unless you explicitly click the “Inquire via WhatsApp” button, which formats your selected parts list into a pre-filled direct message for our team.
  • You can reset or wipe all saved component estimates at any time by clearing your browser cookies/storage or clicking the “Reset Estimator” control.

4. Third-Party E-Commerce Tracking

Our platform provides calculations and includes external links to third-party e-commerce websites where you may purchase the recommended components.

  • When you click on these external links, you will be directed away from our platform. These third-party websites have their own privacy policies and tracking mechanisms (such as cookies and affiliate tracking pixels) that we do not control.
  • No Financial Data: We do not collect or store any payment, credit card, or shipping address information. All transactions happen exclusively on the third-party platforms.
  • We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any destination e-commerce sites before providing them with your personal information.

5. Zero Third-Party Data Sale or Advertising

We operate under a strict anti-monetization policy for student data:

We have never sold, rented, leased, or traded student phone numbers, email addresses, college affiliations, or project requirements to third-party ad networks, telemetry brokers, academic project resellers, or marketing agencies. We will never do so in the future.

6. Google Analytics & Anonymous Telemetry

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) with IP anonymization enabled to analyze aggregated visitor trends. This helps us identify popular hardware topics, measure page load speeds, and optimize our tools.

GA4 uses minimal first-party cookies to record aggregated metrics such as viewport width, session duration, and referral source. These cookies do not contain personally identifiable information (PII) and cannot identify you individually. You can block analytics cookies via your browser settings or privacy extensions without impacting your ability to browse our site or use the BOM Estimator.
